squint, squint...

why squint? well... apparently i have been parking myself infront of the comp... doing what? well... editing videos from my time in police academy... all 2 hours plus of it... yes... finally... after 2 years or so... i knew i had to do it sooner or later... i mean... all the footage sitting inside my comp all this while isn't there for no reason... well... i mean other than my own personal viewing for points in time when i feel like reminiscing, i knew these kind of things aren't really meant to be kept to myself... i guess it is more fun when you share it... and i think the time is right for me to start getting back in contact with my squad mates in order to share these "precious", or otherwise, moments with them... i know it is going to be precious since i was the only person in my squad (or idiot) who brought a video camera to camp... i don't know if it was officially legal but since my officer-in-charge and field instructor was fine with it, i guess i was in the clear... why idiot? well because i first brought my video camera halfway through training which would be the 10th week... there was still a good 10 weeks to go! (there was another guy in my block who also brought a video camera but he only brought it in the last week of training) honestly, i felt like a moron... why? because pepole would only bring such stuff when they are about to pass out from police academy... and here i am... someone who wasn't even close to passing out going round shooting crap/nonsense/flesh-parade/soft-porn/fag sessions... but i told myself back then that i had a perfectly good rationale of doing so... and that was to get footage while we were in the thick of training... the tenth week was good because 1) it was halfway through the entire "stint" and 2)the older batch of trainess had left leaving us the most senior batch around... so the stigma of filming was kind of lessened since the junior trainees wouldn't dare disturb me when they see that i have more hair on my head than them... heh heh... and my squad... well.. most of them aaren't too shy in front of the camera and they were quite helpful in giving commentary... in fact, the whole block 25 was quite helpful and not very camera-shy... which is cool... the thing is... if memory serves me right... there were quite a few others from other blocks who brought a camera early on after seeing me bringing round my camera... i guess they got my drift... so yah... i filmed most of the 10th week and then i stopped... of which then i brought my video camera back again in the 20th (final) week for more "footage"... heh...
so yah... i am about a third through the videos... decided to leave some parts out due to self-censorship... but i won't kid you into thinking that it will be a kiddy video... much coarse language and explicit shots... but no sex... surprise, surprise... i guess the parts left out are those where it was just shots of my yellow box people sitting around doing nothing... so... no point adding those in... i shot it in the first place because... well... because these people were the ones closer to me and i wanted to remember them... thing is... we kind of lost contact after we went our separate ways... one has passed away since in the line of duty... god bless his soul... (not many days go by without me thinking about him) and the rest except for one, have practically disappeared... i am finding it hard to get to them... but i have my breaks... the rest of the squad should be quite reachable... one of them is working near my place... i have the e-mail address of another one... another one i found while scouring friendster... ( i went through 2000 users and found ONE! madness!) so yah... hopefully i can get more contacts from these few i have... ithat is if they kept touch with anybody else... i hope they did...
so... as for the editing proper...i had my frustraing moments mostly stemming from the fact that i am not working with the actual avi files but mpeg files instead due the massive amount of space taken up by avi files... the thing is... i still have the mini dv of the 20th week... (week 10 was overwritten by the 20th week) now i have to decide if i want to work in avi or mpeg (which i already have) for the 20th week footage since the final product of the 10th week footage while not looking too bad, isn't as good as i want it to be... only thing stopping me is the capacity of my hard drive which is dwindling as the seconds of redering goes by... bummer... nyerrr....
ok... i need to go back to my videos... so... yah... later...
